Volkswagen Recalls Atlas SUVs for Brake-Fluid Leak

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., is recalling certain 2023 Atlas FL and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles which could have a faulty brake-line connection resulting in the leak of brake fluid.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-178, the 532 mid-size sport-utility vehicles (SUV) within the recall population “A brake line may leak at the threaded connections.”

The report further stated a brake-fluid leak could lead to longer stopping distances which could subsequently lead to a crash.

Drivers would be warned because, “If a leak is present, the low brake fluid warning light will illuminate in the instrument panel. After the reservoir of the potentially affected brake circuit is completely depleted, the brake pedal travel may begin to increase or the pedal may begin to feel soft.”

According to NHTSA, there were no reported consumer incidents relative to this issue; the condition was discovered internally by Volkswagen.

The remedy is replacing the affected brake lines with new components at no cost to the SUV owners.

Dealers and owners are scheduled to be notified by Nov. 23rd.
