ALLENTOWN, Penn. – Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling certain 2021 Mack Granite, LR, TerraPro vehicles because their rear brakes may not be working.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Part 573 Safety Recall Report 21V-573, affected vehicles fitted with “Meritor drum brakes may have the incorrect brake cams installed on the rear most drive axle.”

The report goes on to say the lack of rear-brake activity may lead to longer stopping distances and crashes. The report added that no accidents have been attributed to this situation.

The remedy for the problem begins with an inspection. “If the brake cams are found to be correct, reassemble the unit and no further action is required. If the brake cams are found to be incorrect, replacement of the brake cams, brake shoes, brake hardware, and wheel seals may be required,” the report explained.

Mack began informing its dealers of this issue July 30th. Owners are scheduled to be contacted beginning Aug. 27th.
