HARTLEPOOL, U.K. — Several U.K. automotive aftermarket suppliers have rallied together to donate parts to Reddish Hall School in Stockport, a school for pupils aged 5-18 with complex educational needs, helping inspire the next generation of automotive technicians.
Braking friction specialist TMD Friction UK made the initial introduction by donating brake training aids through its Mintex brand to support the school’s new charity that equips children and young adults with vocational skills, including in mechanical engineering.
Scott Irwin MIMI, head of technical training at TMD Friction U.K., said: “It’s great that the aftermarket can come together and support young people in their learning environments. It makes a big difference and highlights our industry’s dedication to people and skills development.”
Further U.K. aftermarket suppliers that have offered products to support students’ learning at Reddish Hall School include catalytic converter, diesel particulate filter and front pipe manufacturer, BM Catalysts, which delivered a new catalytic converter.
Additionally, leading aftermarket supplier First Line Ltd. has sent steering and suspension parts for the facility’s two vehicles, such as rack ends, tie rod ends, suspension arms and stabilizer links.
Lubricants and engine oil specialist Exol Lubricants donated some of its Optima LSGM 5W-30 engine oil for the facility’s cars.
Thermal management specialist and tier one filter supplier MAHLE Aftermarket also supported Reddish Hall School by providing oil, air, and fuel filters for the workshop’s vehicles.
Reddish Hall School’s vocational facility has been open 18 months with the new mechanical site now featuring two ramps and a tire fitting machine. TMD Friction UK donated Mintex brake calipers, disc brakes and pads, plus a range of branded Mintex goods such as posters and signage.
James McGrath, lead motor vehicle teacher at Reddish Hall School, said: “It’s really uplifting to have had the support of a wide range of aftermarket industry suppliers and for them to offer us the parts we’ve needed to provide such valuable skills to our students.
“It’s clear to us that there’s a real commitment from each of our supporting brands to nurture the future talent in the industry and help the next generation of engineers and mechanics learn the skills and get the necessary experience to help them succeed.”
