Mercedes-Benz Recalls GLE and GLS Models for Brake Issue

Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 9,000 vehicles that may experience brake problems while driving.

Recalled are the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 4Matic, GLE350, GLS450 4Matic, GLS550 4matic, GLE43 AMG 4Matic, GLE63 AMG 4Matic, GLE63S AMG 4Matic and Mercedes GLS63 AMG 4Matic.

In June 2018, ZF notified Mercedes about the potential of incorrectly coated rear brake caliper pistons.

In July 2018, the issue was analyzed and it was determined that due to a production deviation, hydrogen gas might have been embedded in the brake caliper piston material during the electrocoating process, which might subsequently diffuse into the rear brake circuit hydraulic system.

According to Mercedes, this issue can cause the brake pedals to travel too far toward the floorboards.

As a precautionary measure, an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will bleed the rear axle brake system on the affected vehicles.

Customers with questions should call the automaker at 800-367-6372.
