Lumag Invests 30 Million PLN in Modern Manufacturing Technologies

The BRAKE Report’s Exclusive Look Into Lumag’s Latest Investment In Production Technology

Lumag, leading Polish manufacturer of friction materials, continues to invest in its factory located in Budzyń in the Wielkopolska province. 30 million PLN will be expended to upgrade the factory with new technological lines enabling the precise manufacture of metal components, such as backing plates for brake pads. As a result, the company will not only improve products it currently offers, but will also extend its portfolio, becoming more competitive on the domestic and international markets.

The investment process results from the implementation of the company’s development strategy, which includes entering new market segments and offering ever more comprehensive products, also as Original Equipment. As result of investing over 30 million PLN, the factory will be equipped with, among other machinery, backing plate cutting machines, line for the manufacture of natural rubber premixes and a line used for the application of the Green Coat layer. The first of the above projects will provide the factory with an annual manufacturing capacity reaching 3 million backing plates of repeatable quality, while the last will enable the facility to enhance brake pads for commercial trucks with a special layer shortening the lengthy breaking-in of new brake pads and discs.

“This year we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of our business, but we are not resting on our laurels and are always striving to expand, especially on the international arena. The present-day automotive industry is currently undergoing one of the most dynamic periods of change in its history. This is related not only to the requirements of automotive brands, which want components installed in their vehicles to be more durable, lighter and made of more environmentally-friendly raw materials, but also to the development of electromobility. Based on our strategy, we are investing in the extension of our range to provide our customers with the most comprehensive products featuring high quality”, says Marek Żak, Lumag’s President.

Independence and Modern Technologies

The completion of the investment projects will enable Lumag to significantly expand its operations. The extension of the Wielkopolska-based factory will not only contribute to improving the quality of the currently offered friction materials and brake pads, but will also enable the company to enter a brand new segment – production of all the components a finished brake pad is made of. An additional advantage will be a greater independence of the company from external suppliers.

“The success of Lumag is based on innovative technological solutions developed in our in-house research and development centre and the use of top-quality raw materials. Placing the whole production process in one location directly impacts the quality of products we offer, including OE products. The fact that the factory and the department tasked with the development of new technological solutions are co-located allows us to rapidly implement both innovative concepts as well as new products. I am convinced that the package of investment projects we are about to complete will make us more competitive, especially on the international market” – Marek Żak adds.

The investment project is co-financed by the European Union within the framework of ERDF – Smart Growth Operational Programme 2014-2020 structural funds.
