India: Changing Landscape and Opportunities in Advance Braking System

The ABS market in India is set to grow exponentially to Rs 7,810 crore from the current Rs 1,203 crore, a CAGR of 59.6 per cent over the next four years

The anti-lock braking system (ABS) market in India is set to grow exponentially to Rs 7,810 crore from the current Rs 1,203 crore, a CAGR of 59.6 per cent over the next four years.

This will also open up opportunities for the Indian auto component makers in three key components — namely the electronic control unit (ECU) that constitutes a share of 40 per cent, the wheel speed sensors with a 30 per cent share, and the modulator unit either pneumatic or hydraulic that garners a share of 30 per cent of the overall ECU market.

Although there is a yawning gap in the supply chain due to which ABS remains predominantly out of the ambit of the Indian manufacturing, but the potential for its large scale localisation exists in India.

ABS is an automotive safety system that allows the wheels of a motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the road surface, preventing the wheels from locking up and avoiding uncontrolled skidding.
