HPL Technologies and EMAG Group Develop Partership

Germany – HPL Technologies and EMAG have agreed to a comprehensive cooperation in the field of hard coating of brake discs. Hard material-coated brake discs are the preferred solution for complying with the “EURO 7” fine dust limit values.

On November 10, 2022, the European Commission published the new draft standard “Euro 7”. This standard will apply to passenger cars and vans from July 1, 2025 and to commercial vehicles and buses from July 1, 2027. As part of the new regulation, emission limit values for fine dust particle emissions from braking systems are being set for the first time worldwide.

In order to meet the high demands of the automotive industry on coated brake discs, HPL Technologies and EMAG are jointly developing a hard coating system. The WECODUR® assemblies from HPL Technologies for laser deposition welding are integrated into the EMAG machine platform. This integration allows automobile manufacturers and brake disc producers to use the advantages of fast and sustainable scaling of the production technology.

Additionally, the integration of the WECODUR® technology packages gives the automotive industry access to innovative and tried-and-tested WECODUR® coating technologies and tribological systems. This cooperation will bring the industry a step closer to meeting the new emissions standards and producing more sustainable vehicles.

About HPL Technologies:

WECODUR® is the coating technology for EURO 7-compliant brake discs – developed ready for series production in the Aachen High-Tech Valley for the brake systems of the international automotive industry. HPL Technologies is strengthening its role as a technology innovator and system partner to the vehicle industry and, through the cooperation with the EMAG Group, is gaining access to a range of machines specialized in brake disc production.
