Haldex, a leading innovator in commercial vehicle braking systems, has introduced its new Heavy Duty (HD) specification for its brake adjuster range. This new version of the automatic brake adjuster has been developed to meet the increased demands placed on braking components due to modern braking systems and transmissions. The HD version is available for both the AA1 and S-ABA brake adjusters, offering improved durability and performance without altering compatibility with existing systems.
Key Highlights:
- New HD specification for Haldex’s AA1 and S-ABA brake adjusters.
- Increased rated torque from 2600Nm to 2900Nm, enhancing durability.
- Seamless integration with existing systems; no external changes required.
- Developed in response to higher demands from EBS systems and automatic transmissions.
- Advanced material and hardening processes used to achieve increased performance.
The new Haldex HD brake adjusters are designed to withstand a rated torque of 2900Nm, a significant improvement over the previous 2600Nm standard. This enhancement addresses the demands of EBS braking systems and automatic transmissions, which exert greater stress on brake components, even during stationary phases. Patrik Käll, Commercial Product Manager for Brake Adjusters, explains, “Now EBS and automatic transmissions in stop-and-go traffic can lead to accelerated wear on brake components. This has been the driver for our new product.”
The development of the HD brake adjuster required new manufacturing techniques, including a completely revised hardening process for the casting material, worm wheel, and worm shaft. This process ensures a deeper hardening, increasing the overall durability of the product. Despite these internal modifications, the HD brake adjuster maintains the same external appearance, ensuring compatibility with current systems.
Haldex has a history of innovation in brake adjusters. Since launching the first automatic brake adjuster in 1968, the company has led advancements in this field, including the introduction of the S-ABA self-setting brake adjuster in 1997. Over the years, Haldex has produced more than 100 million brake adjusters, making their designs the global standard.
Haldex remains committed to further innovation. Although disc brakes have grown in popularity, drum brakes continue to be an important solution for harsh, off-road conditions, and brake adjusters remain crucial for these systems. The new HD specification underlines Haldex’s dedication to performance, robustness, and cost efficiency in the commercial vehicle sector, adapting to the evolving demands of braking technology.
