Fras-le and Meritor Celebrate Their 20-year Partnership

Fras-le S.A, one of the worldwide leaders in friction materials, is celebrating its 20-year partnership with Meritor. The first commercial sale to Meritor was made in April of 1997, for aftermarket heavy-duty drum brake linings. In 1999, Fras-le materials were certified for truck and bus OEMs, representing a decisive step towards the establishment of Fras-le products in the North American market.

“Fras-le continuously strives for innovation and development of products that are competitive in a constantly changing market”, explains Auto parts Division COO Sérgio de Carvalho in reference to the company’s entrepreneurial philosophy, which supported its entrance into the international commercial duty automotive parts market. “This decision 20 years ago placed us on the international stage with a presence in every continent and led us to Meritor, a committed and internationally recognized partner who has added value to our brand and products. It’s the ideal partnership to support our customers with high performing friction materials.” emphasizes Anderson Pontalti, general Manager of Fras-le North America.

The successful partnership began 30 years ago, with the joint venture between Meritor and Randon for Master Brakes, a manufacturer of brake systems and components for commercial vehicles, based in Caxias do Sul / Brazil. The successful relationship between the companies and positive results set the stage for the partnership between Fras-le and Meritor in the United States.

Fras-le currently has a production facility in Prattville, Alabama and recently opened a Sales and Engineering office in Southfield, Michigan, supporting the expansion plans for the U.S. market.

Both companies are prepared and focused to achieve great results in the commercial vehicle sector. The partnership between Meritor and Fras-le to support customers with heavy-duty brake linings continues to be a huge success, resulting in the leading position in the heavy-duty drum brake friction market.

Leadership, competitiveness, respect for the customers, commitment and reliability are the keys to success in the global market. This solid 20-year partnership between Fras-le and Meritor perfectly conveys these principles, which will certainly continue to follow the companies, supporting their leadership in the global commercial transportation market.
