ELYRIA, Ohio – From delivering the goods that are helping rebuild America’s economy, to carrying lifesaving vaccines and medical equipment, and coming through with emergency supplies in the wake of natural disasters, it could hardly be clearer how much depends on America’s truck drivers. Every hour of every day, these professionals behind the wheel perform a vital service that often goes unseen and unrecognized by the millions of people who depend upon them – whether they know it or not.
“National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is a great opportunity to put a spotlight of gratitude on America’s 3.6 million professional truckers – but really, we should be thanking them year-round, because let’s face it: They never stop delivering for all of us,” said Fred Andersky, director – demos, sales and service training at Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC. “And they do it around the clock with an unparalleled commitment to highway safety and keeping an eye out for everyone on the roads around them.”

Operation Safe Driver Week Gets Bendix Support
This year’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week takes place Sept. 12-18 and is sponsored by the American Trucking Associations (ATA). According to the organization, 80 percent of U.S. communities depend solely on trucking to deliver goods, and professional truck drivers are responsible for hauling roughly 70 percent of America’s total annual freight – more than 10 billion tons of goods and products each year. Trucking and truck drivers truly move America forward!
“The entire Bendix team offers its heartfelt thanks to America’s truck drivers, and we’re proudly committed to supporting their work behind the wheel by developing systems and solutions that provide safer trucks,” Andersky said. “The most important delivery at the end of the day is the one that sees everyone home safely.”
Driver Assistance – Not Replacement
Bendix is the North American leader in the development and manufacture of active safety, air management, and braking system technologies for commercial vehicles, including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that deliver stability control and collision mitigation. These solutions are engineered to help drivers do their jobs more safely – but there’s nothing that can replace a good driver’s skillset.
“In all of our efforts, we continuously emphasize the critical role of the driver,” said Andersky, who holds a Class A CDL. “ADAS technologies are there to support and complement drivers, and to help prevent even the best driver from having a bad day due to constantly changing road and traffic situations. There’s no substitute for a skilled driver practicing safe habits, supported by ongoing and proactive training. Ultimately, the professionals behind the wheel are responsible for a vehicle’s safe operation, and the full portfolio of Bendix technologies offers an exceptional measure of support.”

Other Bendix solutions supporting these goals include air disc brakes, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and steering assistance. Additionally, Bendix electronic parking brake technology helps prevent rollaways and improves the in-cab ergonomics by eliminating the “sting” of push-pull air brake valves.
