Canada Recalls 300,000 GM Pickups/SUVs For Brake Issues

TORONTO, Canada–Transport Canada has just issued a large recall of 300,000 full-size GM pickups and SUVs for brake problems.

The problem specifically points to an issue with power brake assist. The recall notice says that “on certain vehicles, there could be a reduction in power brake assist due to a decrease in output from the vacuum pump.” With no brake assist, it’s much harder to press the pedal hard enough to stop the vehicle, especially if you need to stop quickly. Transport Canada says that the issue could increase the risk of a crash.

That one affects 300,655 GM vehicles from model year 2014-2017. Models covered include the 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, 2014-2017 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.

GM directs owners to its Recall Centre to see if their vehicle is affected.
