NANJING, China – In 2018, Brembo chose to support the UN’s 2030 Agenda, becoming a promoter of the guidelines represented by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

This is the background to Brembo’s contribution towards achieving Goal 4 (Quality Education), one of the main strands of Corporate Social Responsibility intervention under the leadership of Cristina Bombassei, dedicated to education, training, research and the protection of children.

The “Dream Center” project in China feeds into a path of supporting local communities that has already begun in India with the “House of Smile” and “School on Wheels.”

In the socioeconomic context of rural China, it is hard for 61 million children in underdeveloped areas to access quality education, as it is for 36 million children of migrant workers.

The initiative from the Adream NGO not only involves the structural renovation of certain schools in neglected areas, but also specific training courses for teachers and the definition of an innovative educational program, directed towards stimulating the skills and aspirations of every individual pupil, including through the use of multimedia classrooms.

Alongside the donations of Brembo China, more than 400 colleagues in Nanjing were involved directly in 2019 and more than 1,000 in 2020, making an online donation to the “Tencent 99 Giving Day”, a national fundraising program from one of China’s biggest internet service companies, and contributing to the purchase of educational materials for the centers.

There are currently more than 4,100 Dream Centers in China. The joint contribution of Brembo, Tencent and the local Public Education office enabled the launch of three: Shanghai Chongming District Deng Ying Primary School, in a rural area four hours from Nanjing, with 8 classes, 32 teachers and 197 pupils; Tong Ling Xin Cheng Primary School, two hours away by car, with 13 classes, 32 teachers and 594 pupils; ShangRao Jie Tian Primary School, in Jiangxi province, about 480 km (300 mi) from Nanjing, with 20 classes, 68 teachers and 983 pupils.

Quality education also means closing the educational gap between cities and the countryside, supporting training as a tool for generating opportunities and believing in the possibility of change, with respect for the diversity and abilities of every individual, without leaving anyone behind.
