Brake and Fuel Line Leaks Prompt Altec Recall

Altec Industries, Inc. has announced a recall for certain 2024 AT, TA series aerial devices, and ST series spray bodies due to potential issues with fuel and brake lines. These lines may not be adequately secured, increasing the risk of damage, leaks, and potentially dangerous situations such as fire or brake failure. The recall affects 319 units. Altec will provide instructions for inspection and repair, with owner notification letters expected by October 25, 2024.

Key Highlights:

  • NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V644000
  • Manufacturer: Altec Industries, Inc.
  • Components Affected: Fuel system (diesel) and hydraulic service brakes
  • Number of Units Affected: 319
  • Risk: Brake fluid leaks can lead to brake failure, while fuel leaks increase fire risks when near an ignition source.
  • Remedy: Altec will supply a kit to secure the lines and repair damaged components. Repairs will be performed free of charge.

Details of the Recall

Altec is recalling 2024 AT, TA series aerial devices, and ST series spray bodies because the fuel and brake lines may not be properly secured, potentially causing them to rub against other components. This can result in leaks, which present serious safety hazards. A fuel leak could lead to fire, while a brake line leak could cause brake failure, risking accidents and injuries.

Owner Notifications and Remedy

Altec will provide owners with instructions for inspecting the fuel and brake lines. If lines are found to be improperly secured, Altec will issue a kit to fix the issue. If the lines are damaged, repairs will be carried out free of charge. Altec plans to notify owners by mail starting October 25, 2024.

For more information, owners can contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236.
