Continental has unveiled ATE SecuBrake, the first sustainably produced brake fluid free of hazardous substances that require labeling. The DOT 4 brake fluid exceeds industry standards and is suitable for both conventional and electric vehicles. As the first product in the ATE New Original line, it highlights ATE’s focus on sustainability and high performance for next-generation braking systems. Tim Lunkenheimer, head of product management for hydraulic brake systems, emphasized, “ATE SecuBrake underscores our commitment as a premium manufacturer to break new ground in product development for the aftermarket.”
Key Highlights:
- Certified sustainable production: ATE SecuBrake has a lower CO2 footprint thanks to its mass-balance certified process using renewable raw materials.
- No hazardous labelling required: The brake fluid contains no borate esters, making it easier to handle and store.
- First of ATE New Original line: Represents Continental’s new approach to advanced, eco-friendly braking systems.
- Suitable for electric vehicles: Exceeds DOT 4 requirements, making it versatile for modern applications.
Performance and Sustainability ‘Made in Germany’
ATE SecuBrake is produced following the mass-balance standard, a method that prioritizes sustainability by using renewable raw materials. The production process centers around ethylene, mostly derived from renewable sources, which leads to a significantly lower CO2 footprint compared to conventional brake fluids. Over 80 percent of raw materials used are sourced from renewable resources, underscoring Continental’s dedication to minimizing environmental impact.
No Hazardous Materials Labelling Required
A significant advantage of ATE SecuBrake is its lack of borate esters, which eliminates the need for hazardous materials labelling as per the EU Regulation on Classification, Labelling, and Packaging of Substances (CLP) and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). This feature not only improves workshop safety but also simplifies handling, since storage in hazardous materials warehouses is not necessary. Moreover, employees are not required to undergo safety training specific to hazardous substances, making ATE SecuBrake an appealing choice for workshops.
