AP Racing Powers Lotus Theory 1

AP Racing, a globally recognized supplier of brake and clutch systems, has collaborated with British automotive manufacturer Lotus to introduce the Theory 1 concept vehicle. This project showcases cutting-edge automotive technology and provides an innovative look into the future of performance vehicles.

Key Highlights:

  • AP Racing provides 6-piston Radi-CAL™ calipers featuring an asymmetric design and fixed bridge concept
  • Calipers are crafted from a single monobloc aluminum alloy body with stainless steel pistons
  • AP Racing supplies Ø390x34mm carbon ceramic material (CCMR) brake discs
  • The collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between Lotus and AP Racing

AP Racing’s 6-piston Radi-CAL™ calipers will be featured on the Theory 1 concept vehicle. Utilizing a pioneering asymmetric design and fixed bridge concept, each caliper is meticulously crafted from a single monobloc aluminum alloy body and equipped with stainless steel pistons. This design offers unmatched braking power and control.

In addition to the calipers, AP Racing will supply hand-crafted Ø390x34mm carbon ceramic material (CCMR) brake discs. These discs are designed from the ground up to deliver world-leading performance in racing applications. The carbon ceramic discs are lighter and provide superior braking performance compared to any other product on the market.

The collaboration is a continuation of the long-standing relationship between Lotus and AP Racing, which dates back to the 1967 Lotus 49. Currently, AP Racing provides brake systems for Lotus’s product lineup, including the Evija, Eletre, and Emeya models. Bringing AP Racing on board for the Theory 1 project underscores Lotus’s confidence in the company’s ability to consistently deliver advanced braking solutions that meet the evolving needs of the industry.

David Hamblin, managing director of AP Racing, commented: “Our talented team is renowned the world over for developing countless championship-winning braking systems that far outperform the competition. When it came to identifying a partner for its iconic new Theory 1 concept, Lotus knew that we could deliver the best possible solution.

“We have a long-standing relationship with the team at Lotus and helped to co-create an iconic match of calipers and discs to demonstrate the future of automotive progress. We’re looking forward to seeing the concept vehicle showcased as the pinnacle of technological capability.”

Ben Payne, Vice President of Design at Lotus Group, added: “With Theory 1, we’ve built on everything Lotus has achieved so far in its 76-year history, to push the boundaries for what it means to drive a performance vehicle. We want to demonstrate that you don’t need to compromise – with both digital and analogue capabilities working harmoniously in the future car. Key to any performance vehicle are the advanced braking systems and it’s been a privilege to work with our long-term partners AP Racing to implement these next-generation components.”
